- Glue Stick
- Hot Glue Gun
- Scissors
- Motts Applesauce
Simple Right?!
Prep and Set
Next its time to print the needed text on our card stock so that you can assemble these Minion Valentines. Below is a link to download the exact template I used to create the healthy valentines gifts for this post. Everything you need for your Easy Valentine Treats is in the download. Simply print each sheet on the appropriate colored paper as explained below.
Mellow Yellow
For the Yellow Cardstock, you will want to print your Valentine Text. The yellow sheets will represent the Minion body. Below is an example of what the print out will look like.
I Can See the White
Print the Minion eyes on white as well as the Gru logos. As soon as you have printed the correct valentine to children in the class ratio, you’re ready to puzzle together these easy valentine treats.
Easy Valentine Treat Assembly
If your little one is a bit older, they may have the ability to assist you on this step. Cut out each set of Minion eyes or eye and each Gru logo. Set these pieces aside as you will need them soon!
Next you will need to cut each Valentine card to size. I used a simple paper cuter purchased from Walmart. It make slicing projects such as these a breeze. Each yellow sheet will produce 4 cards at 4.25″ x 5.5″.
Blissful Blues
Next you will need to cut your blue card stock in the same manner as your yellow sheets so that they are sized the same. See below. Be sure not to get too snip happy, you will not need as many blue cards as you have yellow.
Next, you will be creating the Minions overalls. Cut the blue cards into sections. Approximately 1.5″ in height each.
Grab your scissors and nip a small section from the top of one section. Be sure to remove enough space so that your printed text is visible on the Valentine. Check your work by laying the overalls on your Valentine to be sure you have cut enough. See below.
Next, we will be outfitting our little Minions in their snazzy garb. Grab your glue stick and wield it high. Scoop up a few of your pre-cut Gru logos too.
Using your glue stick, secure the Minion overalls to the bottom of the card. Next, glue one Gru logo in the center of the overalls.
Looking Good
Now its time to give that healthy valentines day snack a face! Be sure to have your glue gun warmed up. If you have not used a glue gun before, a word of caution. Its called a hot glue gun for a reason. Be sure to use it carefully and avoid any glue from touching your skin.
Grab a Motts Applesauce out of the packaging and place bottom side up on a hard surface. Snag one of your pre-cut Minion eyes and dab a dot of glue in the center of the eyes and on both left and right sides. Then, carefully place the eyes on the bottom of the applesauce.
Looking good already! Time for the finishing touch. Place a dot of glue to the edge of the Motts applesauce top. The outside edge is the part that will have contact with the card. Therefore, you will want your glue to be around the rim rather than the center of the seal.
Place the Minion eye at the top of your Valentines card and your done! A super cute, healthy Valentine treat that everyone will adore.
My kids really enjoyed these and so did their teachers. Its an easy project with a healthy treat that you can feel good about sending to your child’s school. Well, unless someone is allergic to apples… I hope you enjoyed this and I would love to hear about your cute DIY Valentines too. Share in the comments below!
